Christmas Cookies 2016

We did cookies with Nellie and Tumeca after Thanksgiving.

We also did cookies with Jeneve twice. Once as a donation for the Phelps Community Center and once for her friends and co-workers.

On cookie day: Maria, Garrett, Gerald, Gina, AnnMary, Clara(her boyfriend).

I don’t know how accurate all this is....I found some scratched notes and tried to put it all together a year later (that’s the 2nd or 3rd time I’ve said that)./

These notes are from written notes I found one year later (Jan 3, 2018).

This was the first year Geriann wasn’t here. She’s moved to Virginia or someplace like that to be near her kids.

Margie stopped coming 2 or 3 years ago. She’s moved to Mississippi to be near Marcie and family.

These are the written notes I found:

Butterball

Chocolate Whiskey Cookies (some call Whiskey)

Almond Butter Spritz (Mangione Cookbook)

Cornstarch

Sugar Cookie cut-outs...made by Joan....there’s a note that says ‘perfect’

Shortbread——this is a Ghiradelli mix

Fig

Ricotta Cheese

Sponge Cake Petit Fors

Chinese Noodle Cookies——in Mom’s cookbook at ‘Butterscotch Crunchies’

Butter Spritz...this is probably made with the Mirro Cookie Press

Butter Sandwich Finger Cookies—-Mangione’s cookbook

Chocolate Walnut Puffs

Neopolitans

For Butter Spritz and butter Sandwich, I used Gretchen’s Crumb Boss recipes. It helps to hold the shape of the cookie to let them stand in the cold basement for an hour or so before baking.

The kids tried rolling the dough for the figs and cheese cookies on the pasta rollers. #5 is to thin....only go to #3

Figs rolled like a jelly roll are good.

ButterBalls—-can’t just use a scoop to form. You must roll by hand after scooping; same with whisky cookies.

Maria says if you refrigerate the cornstarch dough it flattens and forks really well, like Gram (my mom) used to do.

Chinese Noodles—-break the noodles before adding the chocolate so you can get a smaller cookie.

These cookies have a VERY short life: Kipfuls and Chocolate Walnut Puffs.

You can’t ice th Ricotta Cheese Cookies and store them. Ice just before using.

Joan and I shipped 15 pounds to friends...it cost us a fortune!

We probably made up 6 trays and had many, (cornstarch and Cheese and Fig) left over.

We also made Pizzelles, Chocolate Chips, Linzer Tarts, and Kipfuls.
